Study requirements
To be admitted to the degree program, candidates must have completed a first vocational university degree recognized in Germany or a qualification from a state or state-approved vocational academy in a scientific field such as biology, biotechnology, or life sciences or in a closely related degree program such as biochemistry or biophysics. Moreover, fundamental knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, and microbiology, as well as sufficient motivation for the degree program are required. Furthermore, this degree program also requires English language proficiency at the advanced level of B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Proof of this particular suitability is provided by an aptitude assessment in accordance with the aptitude assessment regulations.

Registration for the aptitude assessment or selection procedure
Your degree program requires participation in an aptitude assessment or selection procedure conducted by your future faculty. You must have the documents listed in the next section ready for this purpose. Please pay attention to the information regarding the deadline and submission format (by mail or online) required for these documents.
Please note: If the faculty’s website also requests specific documents, that list takes precedence.
Please note: For some degree programs, the deadline to register for the aptitude assessment or selection procedure may fall before the application period of the degree program.
Application for the degree program
In addition, you must apply for the degree program by entering your application details into the TU Dresden online application portal. Please observe the application deadlines for the degree program. Upon applying, you will receive an application number; you may need this number to register for the aptitude assessment or selection procedure and for any subsequent inquiries.
- For degree programs without restricted admission: Once your aptitude has been confirmed, please send the notice of aptitude and all requested documents to the Admissions Office or the International Office.
- For degree programs with restricted admission: You will receive a separate request to submit the required documents (including the notice of aptitude, if an aptitude assessment procedure is a prerequisite) only upon receiving your letter of admission.
Degree-specific information and documents
• A formal application to determine suitability for the consecutive Master’s program in Molecular Biosciences and Productive Biosystems in English
• Copy of the original and officially certified translation (German or English) of the degree certificate of the required first university degree including official transcript of records. If the first university degree is not yet available: Confirmation from the first university that at least 80% of the work required for the current university degree programme has been completed, as well as information on the current average grade for degree programmes with entry restrictions (form on the Admission Office website
• Module descriptions of relevant modules as well as copies of additional certificates and proof documenting any special suitability, such as proof of degree program-specific vocational training, voluntary internships, or similar activities related to the planned degree program
• Proof of English language skills at the advanced level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proof should be provided using a relevant certificate or language certificate. This can take the form of:
a) A certificate of a general or subject-specific university entrance qualification with an advanced course completed in English
b) A certificate for a university entrance qualification completed entirely in English or a diploma for a university degree completed entirely in English, as well as the
c) Following examples of English certificates: TOEFL ibt 79 (New: 4.5), IELTS (6.5), UNIcert II
• Descriptions (or comparable content summaries) of completed coursework that may constitute the prerequisites for participation in the modules ‘Physiological Concepts of Microbe Cultivation,’ ‘Microbial Expression Hosts and Protein Production,’ and ‘Microbial Ecology of Fungi and Protists’
• A tabular resumé in English with an educational and a career history
• An informal cover letter in English that convincingly explains the desire to study and the individual’s particular aptitude
• At least one personalized signed letter of recommendation that justifies the special aptitude of the applicant for the master’s degree in Molecular Biosciences and Productive Biosystems
