Study requirements
Eligible for admission are applicants who
1. have obtained a first university degree recognized in Germany or a degree from a state or state-recognized university of cooperative education in law or can prove sufficient knowledge of law within the framework of special aptitude upon completion of a non-law university degree,
2. demonstrate relevant professional activity, which usually has lasted for one year,
3. demonstrate proficient command of the English language at the advanced level B2 (B2+) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and
4. provide proof of special suitability for studying in the postgraduate Master's program International Studies in Intellectual Property Law and Data Law in accordance with the suitability assessment regulations. If necessary, a suitability interview will also be conducted.
Registration for the aptitude assessment or the NC selection process as well as application for admission to a degree program
Please note: If you are required to apply via the uni-assist portal, you will receive all information regarding the application and the aptitude assessment process from uni-assist.
Registration for the aptitude assessment or selection procedure
Your degree program requires participation in an aptitude assessment or selection procedure conducted by your future faculty. You must have the documents listed in the next section ready for this purpose. Please pay attention to the information regarding the deadline and submission format (by mail or online) required for these documents.
Please note: If the faculty’s website also requests specific documents, that list takes precedence.
Please note: For some degree programs, the deadline to register for the aptitude assessment or selection procedure may fall before the application period of the degree program.
Application for the degree program
In addition, you must apply for the degree program by entering your application details into the TU Dresden online application portal. Please observe the application deadlines for the degree program. Upon applying, you will receive an application number; you may need this number to register for the aptitude assessment or selection procedure and for any subsequent inquiries.
- For degree programs without restricted admission: Once your aptitude has been confirmed, please send the notice of aptitude and all requested documents to the Admissions Office or the International Office.
- For degree programs with restricted admission: You will receive a separate request to submit the required documents (including the notice of aptitude, if an aptitude assessment procedure is a prerequisite) only upon receiving your letter of admission.
Degree-specific information and documents
Registration for the aptitude assessment procedure takes place via the faculty's online registration portal.
The following documents must be uploaded there:
• Copy of the original and officially certified translation (German or English) of the degree certificate of the required first university degree including official transcript of records. If the first university degree is not yet available: Confirmation from the first university that at least 80% of the work required for the current university degree programme has been completed, as well as information on the current average grade for degree programmes with entry restrictions (form on the Admission Office website
• Educational background in tabular form,
• Copies of additional certificates and evidence attesting to particular aptitude,
• a written motivation letter of no more than 100 lines explaining the specific talents and interests of the applicant that make them particularly suitable for the course of study,
• Proof of required English language proficiency by means of a relevant English language certificate, preferably TOEFL ibt 90 (New: 4.5) or IELTS (6.5) Exempt from this verification requirement is anyone who
a) Has a certificate of general or subject-restricted university entrance qualification which proves the required knowledge of English and which is not older than 5 years at the time of application, or who
b) Can provide evidence of a university degree completed entirely in English in a majority (Canadian (or MESC) nationals with a degree earned and awarded in Canada will be considered in this category) English-speaking country (MESC as defined by the UKVI).
