EN-DEHORS, founded in 2022 by Romain Legros and Arnaud Michelet, is a landscape architecture firm that places preservation and transformation at the heart of its approach.
The firm is committed to radical simplicity, prioritizing the enhancement of existing structures and the thoughtful use of local resources. For EN-DEHORS, design begins with a careful analysis of the built, social, and ecological context. Moving beyond the traditional brief, the practice adopts a proactive stance to uncover and reevaluate latent potentials within the territory. By identifying these opportunities, EN-DEHORS independently proposes strategies to municipalities and public stakeholders. This culture of initiative aims to “whisper” spatial solutions where needs have not yet been formally articulated, acting as a lever for territorial transformation. Spanning the Lausanne region and Valais, their work is rooted in the concept of “dormancy.” By investigating these dormant sites and the “already-there,” the firm envisions landscape projects as the revelation of a site’s invisible potential. Minimal intervention and strategic anticipation become the primary architectural acts in response to the scarcity of resources.
