The Department of Forest Sciences in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences is pleased to welcome all new students to Tharandt. The dates and additional information regarding the start of the academic year for each degree program are listed below.

Welcome Ceremony for the Bachelor’s Program in Forest Sciences 2026
The welcome ceremony will take place:
- on Wednesday, October 7, 2026
- in Lecture Hall J1 (ground floor of the Judeich Building, Pienner Str. 19, Tharandt)
- from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Afterward, the student council has organized the following program for you:
- Tree planting
- City and campus tour with all kinds of insider tips
- Starting at 5:00 p.m., a group barbecue at the Cotta Building (Pienner Str. 8, Tharandt)
On October 8 and 9, several orientation events will take place. There, you’ll also learn how to register for first-semester courses. You don’t need to register for courses until after the information session on October 9, 2026. You can find the schedule for this week here.
Regular classes begin on October 12, 2026.

The Formal Enrollment Ceremony is the main welcome event for all first-year students at TU Dresden. This event is part of Welcome Day. We look forward to welcoming you on October 8, 2026, at the Auditorium Center.
A few weeks after the start of the semester, a highlight awaits you: the“Erstipirsch.” You’ll find out in due time when it will take place this year. More information will follow as the semester progresses. Suffice it to say: “We (the student council, ed.) are already really looking forward to it!”

Welcome Event for All 2026 Master’s Programs in the Department of Forest Sciences
The official welcome ceremony for all first-year students in the three Master’s programs in Tharandt will take place:
- on Monday, October 12, 2026
- in Lecture Hall H1 (1st floor, Main Building, Pienner Str. 8, Tharandt)
- from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Afterward, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., you will receive specific information about your degree program:
- M.Sc. in Forest Sciences in H1
- M.Sc. in Wood Science and Technology in H5
- M.Sc. in Tropical Forestry in C2 (Cotta Building)
Starting at 2:30 p.m., we invite all incoming master’s students to join us for coffee in Lecture Hall H3.
Please register for the required modules of the first semester in SELMA starting October 5.
