This page describes the structure and content of the WiPäd master's program as it will be offered to first-year students beginning in the 2026/2027 winter semester.
Program Structure
A total of 120 credit points are awarded in the Master’s program in Business Education and Management Training. The standard duration of study is therefore 4 semesters as a full-time student; however, a flexible part-time study option is also available in the Corporate Training and Personnel Development track (Track I). You can choose between two specializations: the economics-oriented specialization in Corporate Training and Personnel Development (Specialization I) and the specialization in Vocational Teaching in Economics and Administration (Specialization II), in which you select a general education track.
In both tracks, the degree program generally consists of
- the required “Economics” component with a strong focus on Business Education and Management Training,
- the required-elective area in Business Administration and Economics, where you can thoroughly deepen and specialize your economic and
educational knowledge - and the master’s thesis.

Required Courses in Economics
In the Business Education and Personnel Development track (Track I), the required Business module comprises a total of 25 credit points; in the Vocational Teacher Education in Business and Administration track (Track II), it comprises 20 credit points.
To prepare you for your professional practice—specifically, the design of qualification and education processes in the context of commercial training and continuing education—this track has a strong focus on business pedagogy.

Elective-Compulsory Area: Economics

The required-elective area in Economics begins as early as the first semester. In the “Corporate Training and Personnel Development” track (Track I) , it comprises75 credit points and includes modules from the fields of Business Administration and Economics, Business Education and Management Training, methods and procedures, research design, and supplementary qualifications. When selecting modules, you must only adhere to the following credit limits :
- at least 15 credit points in the field of Business Education and Management Training, of which at least 10 credit points must be from the core modules of the field,
- at least 30 credit points in the field of Business Administration and Economics,
- at least 10 credit points in the field of Methods and Procedures,
- 10 credit points in the area of Research Design, and
- no more than 10 credit points in the area of Supplementary Qualifications.

Within the areas of Business Administration and Economics, Methods and Procedures, and Supplementary Qualifications, various profiles are available to help you further specialize your studies . In the Economics and Administration Teacher Education program (Track II) , the Economics Elective-Required Area comprises 30–40 credit points, depending on your specialization. Here, you must complete modules totaling
- 20 credit points in the field of Business Administration and Economics, as well as
- 10 credit points in the area of research design
. In addition, for the specialization tracks in Computer Science or Mathematics, you must complete 5 or 10 credit points, respectively, in the area of Methods and Procedures.

Specialization Track
The Master’s program in Business Education and Management Training continues the seven specialization tracks established in the Bachelor’s program. You can therefore choose from the following subjects:
- German,
- English,
- Ethics/Philosophy,
- French,
- History,
- Computer Science, and
- Mathematics
to prepare for a teaching career at vocational schools.
Both the total credit load (40–50 credit points) and the breakdown into required and elective modules vary among the different specialization tracks. You can see which modules should and can be completed in which semesters in the study plan for your specialization, which you can access via the“ ” menu item “Study Documents” on this page.

The master’s thesis (20 credit points) is written during the 4th semester. The time allotted for the thesis is 4 months. Through the master’s thesis, you demonstrate that you can independently conduct academic research on a topic related to Business Administration and Economics.
To support your Master’s thesis, you will take the appropriate modules in the area of research design. There, you will learn about research methods relevant to your Master’s thesis, present your interim results, and discuss them.
Prerequisites: To begin your master’s thesis, you must have earned at least 75 credit points . In addition, you must have participated as a subject in an empirical research study. You must begin your master’s thesis no later than the semester following the successful completion of your last module exam.
