Information for Students (Start from Winter 2024)

This page describes the structure and content of the Master's in Business Education and Management Training as offered to new students from the winter semester of 2024/25 onwards.
Program Structure
A total of 120 credit points are awarded in the Master’s program in Business Education and Management Training. The standard duration of study is therefore 4 semesters of full-time study, although a flexible part-time study option is also available in Track I. Please visit our website for more information on part-time study.
You can choose between two tracks: Track I, which focuses on Business Administration and Economics, and Track II, in which you select a general education specialization.
In both tracks, the degree program generally consists of
- the required “Economics” component with a strong focus on Business Education and Management Training,
- the required-elective area in Business Administration and Economics, where you can thoroughly deepen and specialize your economic and
economic education knowledge - and the master’s thesis.

Required Courses in Economics
In Track I, the required Business module comprises a total of 25 credit points; in Track II, it comprises 20 credit points.
To prepare you for your professional practice—specifically, the design of qualification and educational processes in the context of business training and continuing education—this track has a strong focus on business pedagogy.

Elective-Compulsory Area in Business

The required-elective area in Business begins as early as the first semester. In Study Track I , it comprises 75 credit points and includes modules from the fields of Business Administration and Economics, Business Education and Management Training, methods and procedures, research design, and supplementary qualifications. When selecting modules, you must only adhere to the following credit point requirements :
- at least 15 credit points in the field of Business Education and Management Training, of which at least 10 credit points must be from the core modules of the field,
- at least 30 credit points in the field of Business Administration and Economics,
- at least 10 credit points in the field of Methods and Procedures,
- 10 credit points in the area of Research Design, and
- no more than 10 credit points in the area of Supplementary Qualifications.

Within the areas of Business Administration and Economics, Methods and Procedures, and Supplementary Qualifications, various profiles are available to help you further specialize your studies . In Study Track II , the Economics Elective-Required Area comprises 30–40 credit points, depending on your specialization. Here, you must take modules totaling
- 20 credit points in the area of Business Administration and Economics, as well as
- 10 credit points in the area of Research Design
. In addition, for the Computer Science or Mathematics specialization, you must earn 5 or 10 credit points, respectively, in the Methods and Procedures area .

Specialization Track
The Master’s program in Business Education and Management Training continues the seven specialization tracks already established in the Bachelor’s program. You can therefore choose from the following subjects:
- German,
- English,
- Ethics/Philosophy,
- French
- History,
- Computer Science, and
- Mathematics
to prepare for a teaching career at vocational schools.
Both the total credit load (40–50 credit points) and the breakdown into required and elective modules vary across the different specialization tracks. Master’s Thesis

The master’s thesis (20 credit points) is written during the 4th semester. The time allotted for the thesis is 4 months. Through the master’s thesis, you will demonstrate your ability to independently conduct academic research on a topic related to Business Administration and Economics.
To support your Master’s thesis, you will take the relevant modules in the Research Design track. There, you will learn about research methods relevant to your thesis, present your interim results, and discuss them.
Prerequisites: To begin your master’s thesis, you must have earned at least 75 credit points . In addition, you must have participated as a subject in an empirical research study. You must begin your master’s thesis no later than the semester following your passing the final module exam.
