Cathedral Canons and Their Curia in the Middle Ages: A CIDOC CRM-Based Cataloging of Historical Spaces of Action
From September 28 to October 1, 2026, the Digital History Conference will take place at the University of Salzburg under the theme “Doing Cultural Heritage.” The FAU Competence Center for Research Data and Information (CDI) will be represented with a presentation.
As part of a poster presentation, we will present the project “Cathedral Canons and Their Curias in the Middle Ages. A CIDOC CRM-Based Cataloging of Historical Spaces of Action.” This interdisciplinary project combines approaches from history, architectural research, and the digital humanities to examine cathedral curias and the activities of medieval cathedral canons, using the cathedral districts of Bamberg and Meissen as case studies.
The focus is on the question of how information from written sources and architectural findings can be semantically linked. To this end, the research data is modeled using CIDOC CRM and consolidated in the WissKI research environment. In this way, spatial structures, individuals, and historical actions are to be jointly cataloged and made analyzable.
The poster will be presented by Leonhard Salzer, M.A. Contributors includeProf. Dr. Mirko Breitenstein, Prof. Dr. Stefan Breitling, Prof. Dr. Michael Kohlhase, Leonhard Salzer, and Dr. Sarah Wagner.
The poster has already been published on Zenodo and can be found here.
