PD Dr. Benjamin Peter: AI and Processes of Marginalization, Using the Example of French in Acadia
Poster on the occasion of the lecture “AI and Minorization Processes Using the Example of French in Acadia” by PD Dr. Benjamin Peter (Kiel) on January 26, 2026, at the SLK Faculty of TU Dresden.
Digital language corpora—the data foundation of AI—give the impression that common structures represent “the” language per se, thereby marginalizing minority varieties.
Using Acadian French as an example, it becomes clear that specific Acadian features are not simply “corrected” by AI in this context, but that this process results in the invisibilization of minority varieties.
Assistant Professor Dr. Benjamin Peter spoke as part of the seminar “Langue et société au Québec” by PD Dr. Franz Meier.
Guests were warmly welcome.
