Volker Heinsberg Prize

Through the annual presentation of the Volker Heinsberg Prize, the ZIS combines the recognition of outstanding theses in the “International Relations” degree programs with a tribute to the ZIS’s longtime visiting lecturer, friend, and supporter, former Ambassador Volker Heinsberg.
Since 2017, following nomination by a thesis advisor and review and decision by the ZIS selection committee—chaired by the Academic Director—the Volker Heinsberg Prize has been awarded annually since 2017 to the best theses of the year in the interdisciplinary “International Relations” degree programs. Thanks to the prize’s founder, Ms. Ursula Heinsberg-Hartmann, the awards for the best bachelor’s thesis and the best master’s thesis are endowed with prize money of €1,200 (best bachelor’s thesis) and €2,400 (master’s thesis), respectively.
