TUD/HZDR joint research project
The aim of the TUD/HZDR joint research project is to develop actinide-based metal–organic frameworks (An-MOFs) as tailored waste matrices for volatile or mobile fission products. In particular, the fission products Tc, I, and Se are incompatible with the UO₂ matrix of spent nuclear fuel, are mobile in their anionic forms, and are volatile at high temperatures. The project aims to address this challenge by developing MOFs based on the principal elements of the waste matrix (U, Pu) that are capable of immobilizing Tc, I, and Se within their pore spaces.
