Saskia Bohn Receives Johann-Andreas-Schubert Prize
On September 21, 2026, Saskia Bohn was awarded the 2026 Johann-Andreas-Schubert Prize during the SACHSENMETALL awards ceremony at the BMW Leipzig Plant’s Talent Campus.
During a festive ceremony, the 2025/2026 Saxon Metal and Electrical Industry Awards and the 2026 Johann Andreas Schubert Awards were presented. The award is named after the prominent Saxon industrialist and researcher Johann Andreas Schubert and is presented every two years to doctoral and master’s students who demonstrate scientific excellence and technological innovation.
Saskia Bohn was honored for her outstanding thesis, “Optimization of selective lithium extraction from pyrolyzed black mass, with consideration of efficiency and economic viability” - a project carried out in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, Department of Hydrometallurgical Recycling and Raw Materials Chemistry. Her research examined an innovative hydrometallurgical process for the selective extraction of lithium from pyrolyzed battery residues, in which leaching with water and CO₂ was systematically optimized under varying conditions (pressure, temperature, solid-to-liquid ratio).
The results contribute significantly to a better understanding of the process mechanisms and provide a solid foundation for the development of sustainable, economically viable recycling concepts in the field of battery raw materials - a key component of the energy transition.
We warmly congratulate Saskia Bohn on this outstanding recognition and look forward to her continued contributions to the sustainable raw materials economy!
