Information for outgoing students
Information for Outgoing Students (Students at TU Dresden)
An integral part of the Bachelor’s program in International Relations is a study period of at least one semester at a foreign university of your choice. Master’s students have the option of studying abroad for one or two semesters.
Here you will find comprehensive information about the international partner institutions of the Center and TU Dresden, the application process, and the recognition of academic credits earned abroad.
Studying Abroad
This takes place at an institution of your choice. The Center for International Studies offers exclusive spots for IB students through its own partnership programs. Here you’ll find a list of the approximately 30 university partners of the ZIS in Europe and beyond.
You can also apply for other university programs, such as TUD Worldwide. You’ll also find many suitable opportunities through the international partnerships of the Faculty of Business and Economics, the Institute of Political Science, or IRGET. Please note that application deadlines may vary!
Step 1: Information Session.
At the beginning of each winter semester, an information session is held for BA students in their 3rd semester and MA students in their 1st semester to help them plan their semester abroad.
You can find more information on the corresponding website.
Step 2: Application.
Applications for exchange spots at TUD are submitted via a mobility platform that lists all available partner universities. After a successful application, you will receive an offer, which must generally be accepted or declined within five days. We will then nominate you to the host university in accordance with the nomination deadlines, after which you will apply there on your own (please note the deadlines!).
For more information, see Application Procedures.
Step 3: Preparing the Learning Agreement.
Digital Learning Agreement (DLA)—mandatory for ERASMUS partnerships, optional for other partnerships as applicable—an agreement outlining the learning objectives during your stay abroad.
For more information on the Learning Agreement, see “Notes on the Learning Agreement.”
Step 4: Changes to the Learning Agreement.
During the first few weeks of your stay abroad, you may amend the Learning Agreement once. Do your schedules conflict? Is the course no longer offered at the host university, or does it simply not fit into the curriculum? Table A2 in the DLA is provided for this purpose.
Important: Once your study abroad program has ended, you can no longer make changes to the Learning Agreement.
Step 5: Transcript of Records and Application for Credit Recognition
All academic achievements from the semester abroad are documented in an official document called the Transcript of Records. This serves as proof of the academic achievements earned abroad and, at a later date, forms the basis for the recognition of those achievements.
Important: Recognition is not automatic! For more information, see Recognition of Academic Credits Earned Abroad.
